Today at Wonnenberg Livestock
Day One of County Fair
The girls took their small animals to the fair today along with their pigs and goats. They showed their poultry which included Rhode Island Red Single Comb Bantams in the Clean Leggeed, Single Comb Class, Belgium D'Uccles in the feather legged class and some standard birds such as Buff Orpington (English Class), Rhode Island Reds (American). Lydia took Grand Poultry with her bred, incubated, hatched, and home rased Rhode Island Red Bantam pullet. This was a huge accomplishment for her. She took Reserve Poultry with her Mille Fleu,r Belgium D'Uccle cockerell, which we purchased this year form a breeder in Nebraska. What a great evening! Tomorrow is the rabbit and cat shows along with poultry showmanship. See you tomorrow.
2025 4-H Dog Show
The girls have been showing dogs sin e they were 6 on and off. This project is teaches the kids a great skill of how to train a dog. Maybe not the success we were looking for but improvements were made by all.
2025 South Dakota Spotlight Livestock Show
Elizabeth stayed home for the State Softball Tourney and did chores so this week is her turn. She has grown so much this year in her showing. We had a great week. Mom and Liz had to unload, setup and load by ourselves with a little help from my brother who was there with is some showing pigs.
10 and Under State Champs!
Hank found the time to coach Lydia’s softball team for the last 4 years and it has paid off! They have a great team!
2025 Fashion Revue
fashion revue has helped my girls confidence while teaching them the dos and don'ts of fashion. For example stock to one kind of tie die per outfit. Even Elizabeth who hates shopping has learned how to shop online. Next years mo. Will try to stay healthy throughout the summer to make this a little more fun. Thanks to my mom for stepping up tohelpwhile I was in the hospital.
New Showman in the Family
The girls cousin made his showing debut this week at a pig show!
Flower Smashing Workshop
After this workshop Lydia attended smashing flowers she had to buy more flowers to smash. We how have many bookmarks and pictures on smashed flowers!
A weekend showing! The girls stepped out of their comfort zone and showed in a South Dakota Junior Angus show.
5:30 Mornings
Why? These hard working ladies are also involved in basketball, gymnastics, cheer, and softball, along with 4-H workshops throughout the days and evenings. The mornings consist of washing and lots of brushing with some blow drying with the cattle, goats, and pigs. Pua, Snort, and Snot always look forward to their brush baths. Followed by rabbit and poultry chores we are at 50 rabbit cages and 15 poultry cages. And though the hours are long they love it all, even when we hear some moaning and groaning.
Community Service Day
Community service is an important thing to learn. The 4-H club spent a couple hours cleaning up behind a local daycare. Many hands made light work.
Memorial Service at Paxton, SD
We had a great time at the annual Paxton community service and potluck. It is always a great remembrance of all who have served and what they have given us! The kids are always excited to collect the casings after the service and serve as memory everyday to remind them of our soldiers both past and present.
Show Pig - Pua
This guy will be spoiled this summer. He will go for baths and walks. Lydia will get in and brush him.
