Today at Wonnenberg Livestock
Working Calves
We were working calves and taking cows and calves to pasture this week. The kids were more help this year and the years of finding babysitters has passed.
The Miniature Poodles Arrived
Around Lydia's birthday she asked her dad for a miniature poodle. He disagreed with her plan of getting the smartest dog that exists. He told her he would get her any outdoor animal she wanted. She spouted off "I'll take some goats." So here we are!!!!
Prairie Dog Hunting
We saw some prairie dogs moving into the yard so we sent out our "Great Hunter". She came back with a striped gopher.
Another Day, Another Activity
Elizabeth had a great music concert this year. She played trombone in the Gregory Middle School Band and had two solos during the choir portion of the concert!!!! She works hard on her music.
2025 State Shooting Sports
One of the favorite weekends of the year for Elizabeth! This year she qualified in .22 Pistol, .22 Rifle, and BB Gun. She had a great weekend and she went to her first real steak house with her Shirley Temple served in a boot.
A few less posts....
The last couple weeks have been a bit wild.
The story is (and it's a dumb one)....
I took the girls' heifers for a walk after the second one made it all the way to the barn she stopped, farted, looked back and was so embarrassed she ran me over. This injury comes from accumulated accidents that were not taken care of. I guess the lesson is to get things taken care of as they happen and make the time to take care of yourself even when the chores, kids activities, and garden are waiting for yout o tend to them.
GARDENING - with No Drama!
It was time to put in some cool weather plants this weekend. The peas and broccoli have made their way out. Saturday I am hoping cabbage, some flowers, and cauliflower plants will go out along with radish, beets, and carrot seeds plus more onions and potatoes.
Visual Arts Day
Lydia went shopping with grandma for her birthday today! Elizabeth is having a learning day and Aunt Kim is teaching landscape painting.
He has Risen Indeed
Easter was celebrated with serving Easter breakfast at church, dinner at the Wonnenberg’s and supper at the Tiede’s this evening. The girls asked if they could do an Easter Egg hunt for their cousins as their Easter Gift from us. Raisng Girls to Serve!
Trip Around the World
Today was a whirlwind of a travelling day! I headed to the local 4-H office this morning to pay for summer workshop days. These are great opportunities for all members. There is always something they can learn. Also we are working to start a juniorl eaders organization in our county so the educator helped make some decisions on how we want that to look.
Next traveled to Chamberlain, about an hour drive, to get a few more chickens (we didn't have this color yet and Lydia has wanted to try this new breed. There will hopefully be pictures tomorrow.
Then back to Gregory to pick up the kids from school after a band lesson and to one more appointment before heading home to the wash rack.
The girls their heifers fed, washed and turned out for the night. The new chickens had to find a home in the old fireworks stand. The rabbits were fed and watered and nest boxes were stuffed for new litters.
Books were read… Tests were studied for... Showers were take…. Chickens were closed… ducks were put away….and the rest of the barns were closed up!
…..oh and somewhere in there I cleaned the grill and made supper.
